Thank You Greater Moncton!

We want to take this opportunity and sincerely thank everyone that participated in our 12th Annual Turkey Drive. Our requirement this year was 3,528 turkeys and when we closed on Friday evening, Dec. 11, the count was 4,464 thereby ensuring every registered family in the area will enjoy a turkey at Christmas and throughout the following cold months. As I write this, donations are still coming in and the tally is still growing.

This year the Moncton Fire Department and I had the opportunity to kick-off our turkey campaign at Camden Park Terrace and People’s Park Tower. The residents, the media and myself thoroughly enjoyed that morning and special thanks for a job well done to Harold McGrath and Christine Richard for helping coordinate the event.

Our sponsors not only enabled us to store the turkeys and transport them to Food Depot Alimentaire for distribution to the various food banks, but were instrumental in allowing us to update the people through internet using the turkey talley and twitter, along with the road sign in front of the fire station. Once again, special thanks to the media for continuing to play an integral part of the turkey drive. You all seem to have so much fun with it and we truly appreciate the job you do.

There were so many stories surrounding the turkey drive once again this year but whether the stories were greeted with smiles or tears, the people were sincere and wanted to share their personal experience while at the same time bringing in a turkey. We were visited by many organizations and individuals including Santa Claus, school classes, day care children, various companies, etc.

However, to the parents bringing their children with them....thank you. It is important at this stage in their lives that they learn at home to give and help the less fortunate people. Although the turkey drive was very busy at times, we hope we were able to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to drop by and participating in your turkey drive. It’s you, the people, that make it happen every year and you all should be very proud of how the community benefits your good deeds. Thanks to the families who give us the opportunity to help serve them in their time of need.

I look forward to being there with you again next year for the 13th Annual Turkey Drive and whatever other challenge I may undertake to ensure our community is indeed looked after, I know I can always count on your continued support.

Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Sue
